Published stories, essays and articles on travel, family, leadership and the experiences that change how we see the world.
I’m a travel writer, author and Iowa fire captain drawn to stories about the places we go, the people we meet and what those experiences teach us along the way. My writing covers travel, family, leadership, the outdoors and the fire service, usually with one foot in storytelling and the other in reflection.

When We Misread the Call—Fear, Culture, and the EMS Response
Journal of Emergency Medical Services (JEMS)
A first-person reflection on how fear, culture and assumptions can shape emergency medical responses—and how travel and exposure to unfamiliar people and places can challenge the way we interpret the communities we serve.
Thirst: The Hike That Humbled Me
Iowa Outdoors Magazine
A firsthand account of how a seemingly straightforward hike at Lake Red Rock became a lesson in preparation, judgment and respecting the outdoors when I underestimated one of the most basic necessities: water.
Stepping Out of Response Mode: Why Fire Service Leaders Need Deliberate Reset
Firehouse Magazine
A reflective piece on why fire service leaders sometimes need to step away from constant response mode, seek perspective beyond the station and return better equipped to lead, connect and serve.
About the Writer
Jeramie Eginoire is an Iowa-based fire captain, 2025 Firefighter of the Year, travel writer, author, and outdoor adventurer whose work explores the intersection of travel, resilience, leadership, family, and the lessons we carry home from the places we visit.
His writing has appeared in Journal of Emergency Medical Services (JEMS), Firehouse Magazine, Iowa Outdoors Magazine, and other publications, often drawing from more than two decades in the fire service and travels with his wife and three daughters across more than 25 countries. When he isn’t at the firehouse or writing, Jeramie is usually planning the next family adventure, rucking, hiking, helping lead Folds of Honor Iowa, or figuring out how to turn an unexpected conversation with a stranger into his next story.
